Family-Owner and Operated Ball Python Breeders

2025: Year of the Snake at Familiar Folx Reptiles

2025 is the Year of the Snake. We can’t wait to show you ours.

Just in time for the Year of the Snake, Spartan Pythons has been acquired by familiar folx to bring you the most innovative, well-bred, family-friendly ball pythons around. Familiar Folx Reptiles will bring you all kinds of beautiful morphs from Axanthic to Zebra. We specialize in darker colored morphs and spooky names like Pumpkin Pied, Black Nightmare, Jigsaw, and more!

Our snakes are kept in our home and given the best husbandry available, backed by current science and research. Each of our snakes has been handled regularly since their first shed. They are comfortable being held and socialized by adults and children. When you choose to celebrate the Lunar Year of the Snake by purchasing your first snake, or adding to your collection, with a snake from Familiar Folx Reptiles, you can rest assured that you are getting a healthy, happy snake. We will post our current breeding pairs here, so you can see what the parents look like and what type of hatchlings we are likely to be offering in a few months.

Familiar Folx Reptiles: Employee of the Month

Our herps are the best and most important employees we have. So to meet them individually, you can check out the gallery of pictures here or head over to our Familiar Folx Employee of the Month page to learn a little bit more about the snake we are featuring that month.

Familiar Folx Reptiles: Beatrix’s Blog

Beatrix is chief of snake husbandry and all things science. She presents you with everything you ever wanted to know about snakes over at her blog. Beatrix is a student at Oregon State University, studying zoology with a specialty in herpetology. She is a trained and experienced vet tech. She’ll discuss everything from setting up your habitat to feeding your snake and how we choose our breeding pairs. She will also interview other experts in the field. Look for discussions about important trends in reptile keeping, along with updates on the important changes ARK is watching.

Familiar Folx Reptiles: Snake Care Sheet

The best care and practices of ball pythons is an ever-evolving question and science. Snake enrichment has come a long way in the last few years. There is new science about how often you should handle your snake and even best feeding practices. We know there are still keepers who never feed their snakes in their primary residence because they fear it will make the snake more likely to strike. This can be true if the only time you go into the enclosure is to feed them, but it doesn’t have to be.

We know there are keepers who insist on feeding live. Some believe live animals are the best way to feed your snakes as it most closely imitates their wild hunting behaviors. We disagree, since our snakes have nowhere to run if the prey decides to fight back. We’ve seen too many scarred snaked because of live feedings. Beatrix’s on-going studies and our additional research will constantly update best practices. We will provide an updated snake care sheet annually, offering our best insights into snake husbandry. We’ll include links to products we like and we use. You can find it here.

Familiar Folx Reptiles: Mamas and Papas

With a little help from basic genetics, you predict with some degree of accuracy what morphs you will get when you pair two snakes. Rather than leave you guessing as to what our next clutch might be, we’re going to let you see behind the curtain. Our breeding page discusses what snakes we’re pairing and why.

We invite you to view the pictures of our egg clutches. Maybe you can help us predict what beautiful snakes might be growing. With each pairing, we will do our best to show you the odds of a particular snake morph being conceived.

Beatrix will also refer to specific breeding pairs when discussing things like genetics, mating and proper snake care in her blog, so you can take a look at these beautiful parents and know exactly who she is talking about.

Familiar Folx Reptiles: Staff Photos

Here at Spartan Pythons we have the best snake staff around. These guys bring it when they come to work every morning and stay until the work is finished. So we want you to get to know them and help them understand how important they are to the Year of the Snake. Just for fun, we also have a sneak peek at one of our familiar folx helping the snakes get to know that even children can be their friends.
